Yatai@Home is a new outside catering Japanese cuisine venture created by the chefs from the award winning (Best Oriental Restaurant in Scotland 2008) and Michelin 2011 rated Yatai Japanese Restaurant. Since we are currently waiting for the new restaurant to be built, we thought you might like some quality Japanese cuisine in your home or office.
Yatai@Home chefs are:
John Jones
Executive chef and proprietor of Yatai, Asian Restaurant Chef of the Year 2009, John was
born and bred in Aberdeen and is a chef with a passion for all things Japanese. He has travelled to Japan 7 times so far and has worked and eaten in countless restaurants in Tokyo and other parts of Japan. He has also served time in well known London restaurants including Zuma and the Michelin starred Umu, both of which lean more towards a more modern and contemporary style of Japanese cuisine.
Junko Yoshizawa
Head Chef of Yatai and font of Japanese knowledge, Junko is from the Kansai area of Japan and has studied traditional Kyoto style cuisine for many years. While working for Yatai, she has proved that it is possible to make high quality Japanese food using the best of Scottish ingredients.
I am delighted Yatai is back – Aberdeen needs you!

This future Yatai restaurant is great great news indeed. Will it be open before the end of 2011? Will you be keeping the Ramen in the menu? I am very fond of your Tantanmen….. Hope to get a reply. Cheers.
Bonjour Sophie et Phillipe,
So nice to hear from you! Yatai will definately be open by the end of the year. I have been studying ramen especially during the last 6 months and will definately being serving it. I remember that you used to eat tantanmen as a student…
Salut,
Chef John.
Ive heard you’re making a return. Cannot wait, Yatai was my favourite restaurant in Aberdeen. Was gutted when you closed. Look forward to returning to your new restaurant.
I wish Chef John and Yatai all the best in life. My comment is not on the food but on the hardwork and kindness of Chef John…He may have forgotten me by now but i was once a staff there and i presume the First Nigerian Staff….I worked there while i schooled at the University of Aberdeen.irrespective of the fact that he knew i didnt know how to cook,he gave me an opportunity and really really tried his best to turn me into a chef…THANK YOU VERY MUCH SIR…YOU ARE A TRUE LEADER/BOSS..i am back in Nigeria but will never forget you..when next i come to Aberdeen,i will surely comeby and pay my respect to you…Wish you all the best…Bye for now..i will keep in touch
So thrilled to hear you are reopening, not far from your old place I hope, I bought a flat nearby partly because I loved your food so much. It was such a shame to see it go and I didn’t really have the chance to work my way through your menu! Keep me posted as I will be waiting at the door for it to open

Any word on the new restaurant yet guys? Can’t wait!
I attended the event at Orchid on the 28th of February, and it was delightful. A marvelous mix of the best food and drink I have had together in Aberdeen.
Thank you very much for your lovely comment! Just you wait until the new Yatai opens in May with it’s own cocktail bar…
